Coop Cooper

Clarksdale, MS
A native of Clarksdale, Mississippi, Coop Cooper earned his BFA in Cinema at Southern Methodist University and an MFA in Screenwriting at the American Film Institute in Hollywood. He remained in Hollywood to pursue a career in screenwriting and write script coverage for production companies, but after the events of 9/11, Coop switched gears and became a High School English/film teacher in Los Angeles. Feeling that Mississippi was becoming an opportune location for film production, he returned to Clarksdale where he wrote and directed the award-winning shorts “The Best Day” (2012) and “Regress” (2013). He has since devoted his energy to freelance video production and producing/directing the filming of live music events. Striving to promote filmmaking in Clarksdale and the Mississippi Delta, Coop is a frequent speaker and host at festivals. For 17 years + he has also worked as a published film critic for the Clarksdale Press Register (and his own website, Smalltowncritic.com) and currently writes food articles and shoots photography for various magazines in Mississippi.
