Catalina grew up in rural Tennessee with a Colombian mother and US American father and studied Experimental Theater in New York City and Film Directing in Berlin. She incorporates her international and experimental theatre background into filmic narratives, playing irreverently with genres, and engaging non-professional actors in fantastical cross-cultural scenes, culminating in supersaturated choreographed utopias. Her short films include PACO, a comic portrait of a catcaller choreographed with a non-professional cast and captured with 16mm photography, KALLOCAIN, a science fiction film about the development of an inner truth serum shot with a 26-person crew and DAS GOLDENE LICHT, a “Bergfilm” (mountain film) about a blind grandmother who climbs the Alps when she hears the call of “Salige Frauen” (holy women) starring members of the Swiss post-punk pop group, Les Reines Prochaines. She is currently in pre-production of a feature-length narrative film.
